Baw Baw Shire Council Supports Tsunami Relief

Baw Baw Shire Council has committed $5,000 for the relief of communities affected by the Boxing Day Tsunami.

By Baw Baw Shire Council - 4th January 2005 - Back to News

The money is to be donated through the Australian Red Cross Tsunami appeal.

Baw Baw Shire Mayor, Cr Ruth McDonald, said the action was one community reaching out to another.

"We are all disturbed by the scenes and stories of devastation that have resulted from this disaster, " said Cr McDonald.

"As individuals many people have already given generously, but it is important that we recognise that it is whole communities and not just individuals that need help.

"We hope that Council’s donation is seen very much as a whole community reaching out to help support other suffering communities," said Cr McDonald.

"Baw Baw residents have already shown themselves to be generous people and our contribution should be viewed as just part of that generosity, " said Cr McDonald.
