Fire Affected Residents Urged To Utilise Clean-Up Help Residents in the Toongabbie and Cowwarr areas, whose properties were affected by the December 2006 bushfires, are being urged to take advantage of a series of clean-ups being undertaken by volunteers. By Latrobe City Council - 27th February 2007 - Back to News The initial clean-up is being held on Saturday 3 March and is being coordinated by a combined group of Lions and Rotary Club members, in conjunction with Latrobe City Council.
Latrobe City’s general manager city services, Peggy Stevenson, said this initial phase of the clean-up will concentrate on hazardous materials such as fencing wire and other scrap metal. "It is anticipated that there will be at least two further clean-up days to deal with other materials," Ms Stevenson said.
"We would like to encourage as many residents as possible to utilise the voluntary help being made available on these clean-up days; so if people whose properties were affected by the fire would like assistance with the removal of fire debris such as scrap metal or fallen trees, we urge them to let us know, so we can organise our volunteer crews."
Residents can receive assistance from the volunteers by contacting Latrobe City’s Recovery Office, telephone 1300 367 700; Brenda Gunn of the Wellington–Latrobe Lions Club on 5148 9387; or Bill O’Brien of the Cowwarr–Toongabbie Lions Club, telephone 5148 9230.
