Seniors FestivalVictorian Seniors Festival 2002 By Latrobe City Council - 14th March 2002 - Back to News This year sees the 20th Anniversary of Senior Citizens Week and the 2002 Seniors Festival takes place between 9 and 22 March.
Celebrations in the Latrobe City are presented by local Senior Citizens Committees and community based organisations, and promoted and co-ordinated by the Seniors Festival Regional Planning Committee.
The Latrobe City Aged and Disability Services Department and the Victorian Department of Human Services supports the Regional Committee with funding and administrative services.
The program of events covers entertainment to suit all tastes and starts with: Major Opening Event: "Take a Step Back in Time" Gippsland Heritage Park, Lloyd Street, Moe Wednesday 13 March 2002: 11am-3pm
- Free BBQ Lunch and Salads, Tea and Coffee including Devonshire Teas.
- Free Horse and Cart rides around the Park.
- Old Movies showing in 20 minute brackets.
- School lessons in the old school room, including imperial and metric maths lessons.
- Demonstrations by Latrobe Valley Woodworkers, Heritage Art Group and Heritage Ceramic
- Group.
- The Cobb and Co. Inn and the Narracan General Store will be trading.
- Snacks, souvenirs and local craft may be purchased at the kiosk.
- All welcome to enjoy the gardens, picnic areas and a glimpse of ‘yesteryear’. Entry $2.50 per person.
Regional Events Garden Party and Afternoon Tea Yallambee Village, Bartling Place, Campbell Street, Traralgon Friday 15 March 2002: 1.30pm-3pm A day for people living in supported Accommodation
Free E.C.C.V Multicultural Variety Concert To be held at Kernot Hall, Princes Drive, Morwell Sunday 17 March 2002: 2pm Presenting acts from the Balkans, Italy and Indigenous Australia. Book Free Tickets by contacting phone number 5133 7072 or tickets available at the door. Families are all welcome.
Free A.P.I.A Country Concert Kernot Hall, Princes Drive, Morwell Wednesday 20 March 2002: 10.30am Donald Cant is one of Australia’s leading music theatre and concert performers. The Senior Citizens of Latrobe City welcome this musical delight. No bookings required but be early to ensure a good seat!
Donald was an original cast member of the very successful Australian production of "The Phantom of the Opera". He was with the production for seven years, and during this time performed many of the lead roles in the show, the highlight being his performances in the lead role of the "Phantom" which he played to great audience acclaim on almost 500 occasions.
Donald Cant is a most sought after Concert artist. He has performed as guest soloist with all of Australia's major Symphony Orchestras and Military Bands, as well as the Singapore Symphony, with a wide repertoire including the Viennese Operetta, Porter, Gershwin, popular Ballads and Musical Theatre favourites.
Closing of Senior’s Festival — Ecumenical Church Service Uniting Church, 1 Park Lane, Traralgon. Friday 22 March 2002: 11am Light luncheon will follow the service. All most welcome.
Local Events Introduction to Croquet Morwell Croquet Club, Travers Street, Morwell Saturday 9 March 2002 Introduction to Croquet and other Mallet Sports. Afternoon tea free of charge.
Go Bowling and Go for Fun Morwell Tenpins, Chickerell Street, Morwell. Saturday 9-22 March 2002: 9am—6pm daily Tenpin Bowling Special Offer - two games (including shoe hire) for only $7.00. Café on premises serving hot and cold food and drinks.
Bingo Traralgon Senior Citizens Centre, Victory Park, Traralgon Monday 11 March 2002: 1pm Play Bingo and enjoy free afternoon tea after the game.
Simplified Game of Croquet Traralgon Croquet Club, Breed Street, Traralgon Tuesday 12 and Tuesday 19 March 2002: 1.30pm Come along and participate in a simplified game of croquet, followed by afternoon tea at 3.30pm. Casual clothes and flat soled shoes essential.
Club Concert and Afternoon Tea Newborough Senior Citizens Centre, Newborough. Thursday 14 March 2002: 1.30pm Admission $3.00 which is payable before date. All are welcome.
Have a Go with a Bow Twin City Archers Gippsland Inc. Toners Lane, Morwell Sunday 17 March 2002: 10am-2pm Only $2.00 if you have your Seniors Card. Special Seniors Celebration offer: A full beginners course over four days for a total of 12 hours only $10.00 (usually $30.00).

Moe Newborough Sports Centre, Newborough Monday 11 March to Friday 22 March 2002 Representatives from the centre will attend the "Take a Step Back in Time" event at Gippsland Heritage Park on Wednesday 13 March 2002 and distribute complimentary passes to people to use the pool and aqua classes.
