New Year’s Eve Survey For Phillip Island And San Remo Residents

Residents of Phillip Island and San Remo will receive a survey in their letterbox over the next couple of weeks

By Bass Coast Shire - 28th February 2003 - Back to News

Residents of Phillip Island and San Remo will receive a survey in their letterbox over the next couple of weeks. The survey asks for their opinion on the future of New Year’s Eve activities at Cowes.

"The Special Events Committee, which includes representatives from Council, emergency services and the community, is very keen to find out what the overall community feeling is towards activities in Cowes on New Year’s Eve," said Cr John Gains, Mayor of Bass Coast Shire Council.

"The results of this survey will be used in conjunction with information about New Years Eve 2002 at Sorrento and the results of a risk assessment to decide what, if any, activities are conducted at Cowes on New Years Eve 2003," said Cr Gains.

Phillip Island and San Remo are becoming an increasingly popular place for people to celebrate New Years Eve. Each year the Island experiences a large influx of visitors, especially younger people, travelling to Cowes to celebrate the arrival of the New Year.

Cr Gains said that crowd management and public safety are major community issues.

"Please use this opportunity to have your say about New Years Eve 2003," said Cr Gains.

Surveys will be dropped in letterboxes throughout Phillip Island and San Remo from 25 February. Copies are also available at Council’s Cowes Customer Service Centre.
