Grants available to sport and recreation projectsApply for one-off VicHealth Active Participation Grants By East Gippsland Shire Council - 8th January 2003 - Back to News East Gippsland Shire Council is encouraging local sporting and recreation groups to apply for one-off VicHealth Active Participation Grants.
Shire Recreation Planner, Al Campbell, said the grants are aimed at encouraging and increasing participation in physical activity for population groups that are currently inactive or may traditionally encounter barriers to participation.
"The grants will address the target population groups identified by VicHealth in a culturally appropriate way and enhance their connection to others," Al said.
Grants of up to $30,000 (Partnership Grants) are available to organisations that will have a significant focus on bringing together a number of partners to plan, implement and sustain a project.
"Projects may have less of a focus on actual program delivery and may address issues such as partnership development, project planning, education and other capacity building initiatives.
"Sustainability of the outcomes of these projects beyond the grant is viewed as essential," Al said.
VicHealth is also seeking applications of up to $3,000 (Local Grants) from organisations that primarily focus on directly providing opportunities for the nominated population group to participate in community sport and recreation options.
"These projects will be locally based and it is expected that many of these projects will focus on increasing access to existing services and groups in the local area," Al said.
Applications for both grants close on Friday, 21 February and successful organisations will be announced in June. Projects must be completed within a 12 month period, commencing within three months of funding.
Application forms and further information is available by contacting Al Campbell at East Gippsland Shire on 5152 6896, or by visiting the VicHealth website www.vichealth.vic.gov.au.
