The Gippsland ACC, in partnership with the Victorian State Department of Innovation, Industry and Regional Development, is bringing two fantastic opportunities for women in business in Gippsland to learn more about accessing finance. The ‘Access to Finance Seminar and Workshop’ is an initiative of the Victorian State Government as part of its "Showcasing Women in Small Business Strategy". Both sessions are open to women in business or women looking to go into business and will be presented by Gillian Walker, Director of Price Walker Consulting.
A free two-hour seminar will be held in Sale on 12 November for women thinking of going into business or currently operating or managing an existing business. The seminar will provide women with a snapshot of the financial products available to small business and will provide tips about how to approach financiers for funds.
A series of two workshop sessions costing $50 per person will be held in Traralgon on the 19th and 21st November for women looking for more detailed information and assistance with finance. There are costs associated with the workshops.
Overview of workshop sessions:
Session 1: Understanding Financial Statements
This session will take participants through the structure of a balance sheet, profit and loss and cash flow statements. Topics to be covered include:
- Managing and forecasting cash flows for meeting fixed commitments such as tax payments.
- Forecasting cash requirements for business expansion.
- Analysing balance sheets- funding liabilities, especially debt.
- Improving profitability
- Key financial ratio calculations.
Session 2: Submitting a Finance Plan
This session will enable participants to put together a financial submission in relation to their own business to present to a financier. Topics to be covered include:
- Funding requirements- the amount and purpose of the loan, nature and timing of repayments.
- Business Information- business history, industry trends, target markets, building relationships.
- Understanding the financier’s perception of risk.
- Strategies to mitigate risk.
- Confidence and presentation skills.
