By Latrobe City Council - 9th February 2001 - Back to News Latrobe City Mayor, Councillor Tony Hanning, has stated that none of Traralgon’s seven preschools will close while preschool numbers in Traralgon are maintained, and Blundell Hall will remain open throughout 2001 irrespective of any changes to preschool numbers.
Councillor Hanning made the commitment following the adoption of a report on the future provision of preschools by Council.
“The recommendation adopted by Council clearly states that while numbers are maintained, all seven preschools in Traralgon will remain open. However, in the longer term, should the enrolment numbers fall due to changing population trends, Blundell Hall, which Council does not own, would then be placed into recess,” Councillor Hanning said.
“Council has also given a firm commitment that even if preschool numbers drop during 2001 due to families moving to another area, Blundell Hall will remain open,” Cr Hanning said.
“The decision gives clarity to the community in planning their children’s future, where if numbers are sustained, all seven preschools will remain open.
“Council also agreed to conduct a comprehensive marketing campaign each year to ensure the maximum preschool enrolment is achieved,” Cr Hanning added.
“Latrobe City is one of less than a handful of Councils in Victoria taking an active and positive role in the provision of pre-school services. Latrobe has remained committed to encouraging and maximising pre-school attendances, because it firmly believes that local government has a responsibility to give its youngest citizens the best possible start in life,” Councillor Hanning concluded.
