Community Assistance Grants Scheme 2002/2003Festivals and events will feature prominently in this year’s round of community assistance grants By Karen Gregory - 10th September 2002 - Back to News Wellington Shire Council has set aside $70,000 in the Community Programs and $20,000 in the Arts/Heritage Festivals & Events to help community organisations this financial year.
Council is inviting local groups and organisations to apply for funding through its Community Assistance Grants Scheme.
Funding will be available in two important areas this year:
- to help the community hold quality arts/heritage festivals and special events in Wellington Shire to celebrate artistic and cultural achievement, and
- to provide support for not-for-profit community groups to help develop community programs that improve quality of life within Wellington Shire.
Social Planner Julia Farrell said that over the years Council had provided funding for a wide variety of community based initiatives such as:
- Tarra Festival
- Gippsland Regional Arts’ Community Arts Program
- Avon Badminton Club’s Badminton Skills Program.
- Rosedale Neighbourhood House’s Exercise Program for Older Adults
- Gippsland Women’s Health Service’s Wellington Women’s Interest Group
- Purchase of computer equipment for the Heyfield News weekly community Newsletter
"We want to hear from any organisation that needs assistance," said Julia.
"Our Community Development team is always ready to help with funding applications and advice so Council can assist the Wellington community to enjoy a wide range of activities and entertainment."
Applications close on Thursday 11 October 2001 at 5pm. Application forms and a copy of the guidelines can be obtained from Shire Service Centres.
