Local Groups Encouraged To Apply For History Grants Nationals Member for Morwell Russell Northe is encouraging local community groups to apply for the latest round of funding under the State Government‟s Local History Grants program. By Russell Northe - 9th September 2011 - Back to News The program provides up to $12,000 to community organisations to support the cost of any project that preserves, records or publishes Victorian local history.
"There are many local groups and organisations in the Morwell electorate working to preserve our rich and diverse history so that it is not forgotten," Mr Northe said.
"These histories have influenced the way our rural communities have evolved and developed."
Successful applications from this region for the 2010 – 2011 round of grants received funds ranging from $2600 to $8000.
"Last year we had a number of local groups successful in receiving grants including the Yinnar and District Community Association with its project to create a historical guide and develop the Yinnar History Walk; the Yallourn Association‟s „Virtual Yallourn‟ project; and the Gippsland Immigration Park‟s „Stories From The Wall‟ project," Mr Northe said.
"It would be great to see more local groups successful in receiving funds this year to help restore our region‟s history," he added.
Preference will be given to applications that demonstrate the sharing of local history information across multiple local communities, have ongoing community benefits and demonstrate innovative engagement with a community.
Applications for the 2011 – 2012 Grants close on Friday 11 November and must be submitted by email to grants@prov.vic.gov.au
