New Facilities At Phillip Island Leisure CentreChristmas has come early to the Phillip Island Leisure Centre, with the installation of brand new change rooms and toilet facilities. By Bass Coast - 22nd December 2011 - Back to News Ella Angarane, Bass Coast Shire Council’s Recreation and Leisure Planner, said the Centre can now better cater for all the local community and encourage more people to get active. The upgraded toilets and showers improve access for users and incorporate environmentally sustainable features," explained Ms Angarane.
"New features include a fully accessible unisex toilet and shower, as well as male and female toilets that allow easier access. In the change rooms, the new shower petitions increase privacy and the whole area has improved non-slip surfaces."
The redevelopment means the change rooms and toilets now meet current Australian standards and allow more members of the community to access the Centre.
The works also include modern environmental efficiencies such as low flow water fixtures, skylights, water harvesting to flush the toilets and a sensor flush urinal for water conservation.
The total value of the project is $160,000. The redevelopment was undertaken by the Bass Coast YMCA with funding from Sports and Recreation Victoria’s Minor Facility grants and Bass Coast Shire Council.
Rebecca Wilson, Manager Bass Coast YMCA, said they were really happy with the final product. The Phillip Island Leisure Centre is a fantastic asset for the local community," said Ms Wilson.
"With over 700 members, the Centre averages over 1000 visits per week with a range of programs such as Group Fitness Classes, Health Club programs, Basketball, Squash, Vacation Care and a range of other health and wellness programs. The project came in on time and on budget thanks to the fantastic work by Barry Hopkins and local builder, TS Construction who have done a wonderful job."
An official opening of the new facilities is planned for early in 2012.
