15th Anniversary of the Polish Club

The children at Latrobe City’s Early Learning Centre in Moe have several new reasons to love going out to play these days: a fairy garden, complete with mural, and a brand new slide and climbing fort to play on.

Centre Leader, Narelle Rudy, said that the fairy garden had been inspired by the children at the centre.

"The children were talking about fairies and we decided to create our own little fairy garden in the yard. The garden is next to a shed, and one of our parents, Heidi Kennedy, very kindly offered to paint a fairy mural on the side of the shed.

"The children then decorated butterflies with glitter and we laminated them to hang on the fence and flutter in the breeze. We have also placed windmills, spirals, gnomes, fairies and toadstools in the garden, along with flowers. It is very pretty and the children love to look at it or sit in it and play," Ms Rudy explained.

"We have also been able to replace an old wooden climbing frame that we originally had in the yard with a new slide and climbing fort. The children are very excited by the new equipment, which was purchased through fundraising and a community grant," Ms Rudy said.

"Playgrounds need to include different types of equipment, and different areas to explore. This encourages imaginative play as well as mobility, strength and co-ordination. All in all, the new playground and garden are providing heaps of fun for the children at playtime," Ms Rudy concluded.

The Moe Early Learning Centre is in Fowler Street. It is open from 7.30am to 5.45pm Monday to Friday. For more information contact the centre on 5135 8410.
