Rose Accessibility Enhanced – Up The New Garden Path

Accessibility to the Morwell Centenary Rose Garden is currently being enhanced through construction of a new footpath.

By Latrobe City - 24th May 2007 - Back to News

The new footpath links the large car park opposite the justice precinct and adjacent to the corporate headquarters in Commercial Road with the rose garden.

Latrobe City mayor, Cr Tony Zimora, said the new footpath being constructed on the northern side of Commercial Road winds between beds of roses, providing a preview of the delights awaiting those who visit the garden proper.

"The new footpath is being constructed in consultation with the Morwell Centenary Rose Garden committee and is being created in a similar style to paths that currently exist throughout the rose garden. These paths feature tiled edges and a central scoria-surfaced core.

"With the car park now completed other than some final landscaping touches, the new path will create an important east-west link from the rose garden into the CBD for visitors. The new path will also provide a far safer access for those wishing to cross Commercial Road and link with the bus stop on the northern side," Cr Zimora said.

The new rose garden access pathway is being fully financed by council through Latrobe City’s capital works budget. The path is expected to be open for public use by the end of May.
