By Eimear McNelis - 23rd October 2002 - Back to News

GippsTAFE’s Engineering and Automotive Departments are offering a brand new training program to school leavers in 2003.

"Next year we are offering a Certificate of Automotive Engineering, which is based on a Certificate I in Engineering and a Certificate II in Automotive," said Jackson Long, Program Coordinator of GippsTAFE’s Automotive Department.

Mr Long said that the course was very unique as it is project-based. The course features "The Edge Project", which will introduce students to concepts of vehicle design, fabrication, construction and testing.

"The students that undertake this course will be building a real vehicle from the ground up." said Mr Long.

The vehicle is called the Sidewinder Plus, and is a nimble, compact and powerful off-road racing vehicle.

The Sidewinder Plus will challenge and build students theoretical, practical and team skills, with students studying a full range of subjects.

For more information on this exciting new GippsTAFE course, please contact Jackson Long or Peter Sheehan on 5127 0277.
