Stratford Historical Society Museum has expanded its collection with a new display annex, funded by the Stronger Communities Program, showcasing local history through artefacts, documents, and memorabilia from the former Shire of Avon.
The Stratford Historical Society Museum has expanded its collection and opened a newly completed display annex in George's Shed to showcase more artefacts. Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester met with the dedicated volunteers to inspect the Museum's latest development, which they were able to undertake having secured funding through the #lovegippsland Stronger Communities Program (SCP).

Celebrating local history
Mr Chester said, "Our region has an incredible history, and the team of volunteers at the Stratford Historical Society do a fantastic job of sharing rich local history with the public. The Museum showcases a wide range of local artefacts, documents, photographs, textiles, machinery and vehicles from areas that comprised the former Shire of Avon, including Stratford, Munro, Stockdale, Clydebank, Bundalaguah, Nuntin, Marlay Point, Invermichie, Castleburn, Dargo, Grant, Crooked River and other nearby alpine goldfields, including Black Snake Creek."
"The Stratford Historical Society is one of dozens of local community groups that have benefited from the SCP over the years. "The program is a fantastic initiative that supports local groups in increasing participation and contributing to vibrant communities," Mr Chester said.
Mr Chester commended the group of volunteers at the Stratford Historical Society for their dedicated work in providing a valuable community resource and comprehensive showcase of local history. "It's an amazing collection of memorabilia, and I encourage Gippslanders to take the time to visit the Stratford Museum and check out the fantastic showcase of Gippsland history made possible by a wonderful group of local volunteers," Mr Chester said.
