Bass Coast Shire Council is planning a number of community events and activities to welcome Victoria’s premier cycling event, the Jayco Herald Sun Tour, into Inverloch on 13 October.

Council’s Special Events Co-ordinator, Frank Angarane, said the Herald Sun Tour was made up of 14 teams featuring riders with national and international acclaim.

"It’s really an honour that the world’s cycling best will be in Gippsland for the Sun Tour," Mr Angarane said.

"Not only do we get to watch these guys in action, but it really is an economic boost for the region."

The event kicks off in Traralgon on 12 October with a criterion. The first stage will leave Traralgon at 10.30am on Monday 13 October, travelling via Boolarra, Mirboo North and Leongatha before finishing at Inverloch in the Esplanade between 1.30 and 2.30pm.

The second stage will leave Inverloch from Ramsay Boulevard (near Rainbow Park) at 10.30am on Tuesday 14 October, travelling on the Bunarong Coastal Road to Warragul via Wonthaggi, Korumburra and Poowong.

The race will end in Lygon St, Carlton, on Saturday 18 October after overnight stops in Maryville, Mt Bulla and the Yarra Valley.

"Community activities are being planned for both the finish and start stages in Inverloch," Mr Angarane said. "There will be some changes to traffic arrangements to accommodate the event and those directly affected have already been notified in an effort to minimise the disruption."
