Phillips Island Library - Extra HoursHere's your chance to have your say! By Bas - 2nd December 2005 - Back to News Phillip Island Library is distributing a short survey around town over the next few weeks for the community to indicate what additional library hours would work best for you and your families. Surveys can be picked up at the Library or at the Phillip Island Learning and Community Centre, Church St, Cowes and the Phillip Island and San Remo Advertiser, Chapel St, Cowes.
"With the opportunity to add extra opening hours, tell us your preferred option so that we can make the service more accessible" said John Murrell, Chief Executive Officer for the West Gippsland Regional Library Corporation. "Phillip Island Library has recently undergone a ‘facelift’, now we have the chance to increase the open hours for the public, too."
Phillip Island Library handles over 31,000 visits a year, lending 45,000 items in that period. Staff Ron Janetta and Avril Frederiks are keen to welcome you and show you how to easily find what you are looking for.
Current hours are:
Monday: 2.00pm - 6.00pm - Summer only
Tuesday: 10.00am - 12.30pm & 2.00pm - 6.00pm
Wednesday: Closed
Thursday: 10.00am - 12.30pm & 2.00pm - 6.00pm
Friday: 10.00am - 12.30pm & 2.00pm - 6.00pm
Saturday: 10.00am – 1.00pm
"Libraries have changed with the times," said Mr Murrell." You can now borrow DVDs, videos, music CDs, talking books on CD and cassette, and magazines as well as the regular fiction and non-fiction books for all ages."
Membership is free and members can borrow up to twenty items at a time, and access any of the 14 West Gippsland libraries across the region. Visit the website www.wgrlc.vic.gov.au to access electronic reference materials, magazine articles and newspapers AND place items ‘on hold’ anywhere in the region for you to pick up at your most convenient library service point.
As well, members can access the Internet on the two computers in the Library, making it excellent for students who don’t have computers at home, to do necessary homework research, surf the net or just email friends
If you aren’t familiar with the Phillip Island library, come soon and check it out. With the recent refurbishment taking advantage of the natural light, it is a delightful space for book lovers to while away a few hours.
Surveys need to be returned to the library by Friday 30 December. Please phone Phillip Island Library on 5952 2842 if you would like a survey faxed, emailed or sent to you.
