Community Safety Manager, Philippa O’Halloran said there would be discounted microchipping, dog obedience demonstrations, panel discussion on responsible pet ownership and a pet parade for school aged children and their wonderful array of pets.

"We are also calling for stallholders for the event," said Mrs O’Halloran. "Stalls offering pet goods and or services will be free of charge, while non-pet related stalls will attract a $20 fee.

"This is a fantastic opportunity for residents to come along and learn more about their pets and being a responsible pet owner in a fun and interactive atmosphere.

"Children are encouraged to bring along their pets for the pet show. Categories include most adorable cat and dog, most interesting cat and dog, most interesting pet other than cat or dog and best dressed.

The opportunity for pet owners to micro-chip their pets at a discounted price is a key component of the event.

"Pet owners can bring along their pet and have it micro-chipped by a vet on the day," said Mrs O’Halloran.

"Sadly, many pets that end up in pounds and shelters are not identified. Some animals are rehoused if they cannot be identified and returned to the owners, but others are not so fortunate.

"A microchip provides a permanent form of identification which can quickly reunite owners with lost or injured pets," continued Mrs O’Halloran.
