Around 3,000 indigenous plants were carefully distributed in the foreshore just west of the Kilcunda Trestle Bridge and near Cemetery Beach, thanks to the efforts of Bass Coast Shire Council, Three Creeks Landcare, Coastcare and dozens of volunteers Bass Coast Shire Council’s Planning and Environment Director, Hannah Duncan-Jones, said: "it was a wonderful group effort and all were rewarded for their hard work with seeing the new vegetation spread throughout the landscape." The new vegetation will provide habitats for a range of animals including the Golden Headed Cisticolla and White Fronted Chat and marsupials such as the White Footed Dunnart and the Southern Brown Bandicoot. When planning the re-vegetation care was taken to match the flora with the surrounding local environment. Ms Duncan-Jones explained that is takes months of preparation to get this positive end result. "This area needed replanting because erosion that had resulted in a large clay pan in the surrounding vegetation," said Ms Duncan-Jones. The Kilcunda planting was one of the eight community planting days held by Three Creeks Landcare over the season between late June and mid September each year. During this time the group will plant around 20,000 plants. Source: http://gippsland.com/ Published by: news@gippsland.com Related Articles
