Phillip Island Visitor Information Centre RenovationThe Phillip Island Visitor Information Centre in Newhaven will move over the road on Monday 10 September as its renovation begins. By Bass Coast Shire Council - 12th September 2007 - Back to News
The Centre will operate out of the Phillip Island Chocolate Factory, on the other side of Phillip Island Road, while works take place.
The makeover is scheduled to be completed by Christmas, just in time for the busy summer period.
The renovation is jointly funded by Federal, State and Local Government.
Bass Coast Shire Council’s Economic Development Manager, Peter Francis, said the new Centre would have a bigger flow-on effect for local businesses.
"The Centre caters for over 150,000 visitors a year.
"In peak periods, the Centre has up to 2,000 visitors and over 200 phone calls a day.
"Our aim is to support and showcase local business to visitors," said Mr Francis.
"Currently, the Centre has no facilities for touring or school groups when they visit.
"The new site will be expanded to include a meeting room for visiting groups and local groups to use.
"The building will also be updated with modern facilities and displays," continued Mr Francis.
"Our aim is to be a market leader in service provisions and facilities, so that visitors to our Shire stay longer and get the most out of their time at Bass Coast."
The Phillip Island Visitor Information Centre at Newhaven is the hub of the Visitor Information Network across the Shire, which includes Inverloch, Wonthaggi and Cowes.
