Ryan’s comments disappointing and unhelpful: Ingram

Independent Member for Gippsland East, Craig Ingram, has described yesterday’s comments in a press release by the leader of the National Party, Peter Ryan on the impact of the timber pricing as "unhelpful" and "disappointing".

"At a time when all political representatives supporting the timber industry should be united and presenting a strong and committed force against the VicForests royalty hikes, the Nationals have instead used the opportunity to play wedge politics in an attempt to score cheap political points," Mr Ingram said.

"The timber businesses at Cann River, Orbost, Swifts Creek and Heyfield and other timber communities throughout Victoria deserve more respect than Peter Ryan’s divisive comments.

"It’s time Peter put aside his personal dislike of me and actually started working for the constituents that the National Party is supposed to represent.

"It is quite ironic that Peter Ryan was missing from Parliament when I and other members called the division opposing the legislation which is currently destroying our timber communities," Mr Ingram concluded.
