Latrobe City Council’s performing arts and venues coordinator, Kathleen Roberts, said that the exhibition would run to 2 July.

"The work in this exhibition is so serene and tranquil. Visitors to the Performing Arts Centre are really enjoying the cool colour palette and mediums used. The artwork is a terrific complement to the diverse range of shows that are being presented in May and June. I know that the exhibition will enhance our visitors’ experience when they are seeing a show.

"We are proud to be able to offer the exhibition space to local schools to exhibit students works in a more formal setting than the classroom. Patrons attending various shows and events during the exhibition period often remark on the diversity and skill that the students have and that it is a pleasure to see the work prior whilst they are waiting for a show to start," Ms Roberts said.

Flinders Christian Community College Art Teacher Jenny Cox, said that the students drew inspiration from Monet’s art.

"Our primary students made a collage of Water Lilies and Japanese Bridge. They looked at the colours in Monet’s artwork and became aware of Monet as an Impressionist painter.

"Being able to display the students’ artworks in this venue gives us a sense of pride and achievement," Ms Cox said.

There will be an official exhibition opening on Tuesday 4 June at 4.30pm at the Latrobe Performing Arts Centre. To attend please RSVP the box office on 5176 3559.

Primary and secondary schools interested in this unique opportunity of displaying student works in the Latrobe Performing Arts Education Exhibition program are asked to contact Eloisa Tripodi Latrobe Performing Arts Education Officer on 0458 366753 or eloistatr@latrobe.vic.gov.au
