Traralgon Neighbourhood Learning House Nominated As A Learn Local Award Finalist • Traralgon Neighbourhood Learning House 2014 Learn Local Finalist
• Winners to share in $50,000 in prize money
By Russell Northe - 8th August 2014 - Back to News Member for Morwell Russell Northe today congratulated Traralgon Neighbourhood Learning House (TNLH) for being named as one of the finalists of the 2014 Learn Local Awards.
"The awards are an opportunity to recognise and thank individuals and organisations that played a key role in assisting our local community who traditionally face barriers to participating in education," Mr Northe said.
"TNLH provides a supportive atmosphere for people in our community to participate and learn.
"TNLH does great work in responding to community needs through planning and development of programs, vocational and recreational areas and providing personal support and information."
This year’s Learn Local Award winners will share in a prize pool of $50,000 across seven categories. Mr Northe said TNLH had previously been successful in receiving a number of Victorian Coalition Government grants.
"TNLH received $50,000 in Victorian Coalition Government funding for the Digital Shed Program through the Adult, Community and Further Education (ACFE) Innovation Fund.
"This program provides a ‘drop in’ one to one mentoring service to community members on individual digital problems. The program aims to assist people with email, mobile phone, tablet and internet issues," Mr Northe said.
Mr Northe said TNLH was recently successful in receiving $4,500 from the Training Delivery Support grants.
"They will use the grant to purchase teaching and learning resources, to aid the delivery of programs and services," Mr Northe said.
"It has been a good couple of weeks for TNLH as they also won three awards at the Latrobe City Business Tourism Association’s 2014 People’s Choice Awards held recently." Mr Northe congratulated TNLH on winning the People’s Choice Award for "Good Access is Good Business", "Most Popular Community Service/Organisation" and the top honour "Champion of Champions". "These awards are certainly well deserved and I congratulate TNLH for their ongoing commitment to the community." The Learn Local Awards will be held on 28 August.
