Water Tank Rebate Scheme ExtendedThe State Government has announced the extension of a water saving initiative providing East Gippsland Water residents with a rebate of up to $1,000 for buying and installing a rainwater tank.
By East Gippsland Water - 25th June 2007 - Back to News The Water Smart Gardens and Homes Rebate Scheme, which was originally scheduled to finish at the end of this month, will now continue for at least another four years and aims to encourage households to cut their water use.
The rebate is available to those connected to East Gippsland Water’s reticulated water supply system and applies to rainwater tanks connected to a toilet and/or laundry since the 1st January this year.
Tanks with a capacity between 2,000 and 4,999 litres attract a rebate of $500, while up to $1,000 is available for tanks with a capacity greater than 5,000 litres.
Participants will not only save money, they will be making a valuable long term contribution to water conservation in the region.
Said East Gippsland Water’s acting Chief Executive Officer, John Groom: "This is a very useful initiative for those looking to install a rainwater tank, as it offers the potential for each participating household to save up to 40,000 litres of water a year."
Customers can receive their tank rebate as a credit on their water bill, a cheque, or a one-off Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT).
Rebates are not available in relation to new houses that received a building permit after 30 June, 2005.
