Future Development Of Newhaven

Bass Coast Shire Council has received a rezoning application for 28 hectares of land west of Newhaven between Beverley Road and the road to Churchill Island.

By Bass Coast - 1st July 2011 - Back to News

Council’s Planning and Environment Director, Hannah Duncan-Jones, said the application asked for the land to be rezoned for housing, public use, conservation and other uses.

"We’re writing to all Newhaven landowners to give them the opportunity to have their say on the future development of the area," said Ms Duncan-Jones.

"Many residents and landowners gave input to the 2008 San Remo, Newhaven and Cape Woolomai Structure Plan that has since been adopted by Council.

"This structure plan favours land to the west of Newhaven as being able to best handle future moderate growth."

Ms Duncan-Jones said that now an application had been received for the rezoning of land, Council was obliged to consider it.

"During the 2008 San Remo, Newhaven and Cape Woolomai Structure Plan discussions, many Newhaven residents said they wanted to have input into rezoning applications earlier in the process, so this is what we are offering," explained Ms Duncan-Jones.

"We’ve decided to look at this application in two stages. In this first, informal stage, we’re asking landowners and residents to give feedback on what they believe is important for Newhaven.

"This will then be passed onto the applicant for them to consider before putting together their final application.

"It is really easy to be involved – you can just jump online, register your details, answer the survey, provide any other feedback and we’ll be able to keep you informed during the process."

To register, go to Council’s website and click on the ‘Have Your Say’ link or for more information or help, contact Stacey Skilton on 1300 BCOAST (226 278).

The second stage of the process is the formal exhibition stage. This is when full details of the final amendment will be put on public exhibition and the community will have an opportunity to provide input before the amendment is formally considered by Council
