New adult day activity centre opens

New Adult Day Activity Support Service Day Centre for frail and aged residents in Traralgon area.

By Latrobe City Council - 23rd March 2001 - Back to News

Latrobe City Council has opened a new Adult Day Activity Support Service (ADASS) Day Centre for frail and aged residents in the Traralgon area.

Latrobe City Mayor, Councillor Brendan Jenkins, said that due to the increase in citizens seeking access to the service, a new Centre has been opened in the Queens Parade Community Hall every Wednesday from 10:30am to 4pm.

“Latrobe City Council together with the Department of Human Services has provided the additional funding to open the new Centre. This additional service is another way that Latrobe City can provide practical assistance for the most vulnerable and often neglected members of our community,” Cr Jenkins said.

Councillor Lisa Proctor said that many elderly people can become increasingly isolated in today’s society.

“The new Queens Parade Centre will not only provide elderly citizens with a nutritious two course lunch, but also activities and social interaction that help keep the ageing active and help them enjoy active participation in the community,” Cr Proctor said.

“Traralgon ADASS currently operates six days a week in the Traralgon area and one day in Yallourn North every week. This enables frail and aged residents in Yallourn North, Toongabbie, Glengarry, Tyers, Traralgon South, Flynn and Traralgon access to high quality aged care services,” Cr Proctor added.

Enquiries about accessing Adult Day Activity Support Services can be directed to Alison Haber at Latrobe City Council, telephone 1300 367 700.
