Latrobe City’s active communities coordinator, Marnie Dans said that the day would be filled with free activities for every age group to experience.

"The Go for your life event will feature demonstrations of many different fitness and sporting activities; a special appearance by the Latrobe City Pacers; the Arthritis Week relay; activities with local emergency services including tug of war and running races; ‘Move and Groove’ children’s entertainment show; healthy food ideas and many exhibits, prizes and giveaways," Ms Dans said.

"We will also be offering discounted Gold membership to Latrobe leisure facilities," Ms Dans added.

"The Go for your life campaign is focussed on physical activity, good nutrition and wellbeing and our aim with this local event is to encourage people to think positively about their health, eating habits and fitness levels, whilst having fun at the same time," Ms Dans explained.

Latrobe City mayor, Cr Tony Zimora said that the message ‘Go for your life’ is a state government funded initiative to help improve the health and wellbeing of the Victorian population.

"The key messages promote the benefits of eating healthy food as well as being physically active. Research shows concerning trends in levels of overweight, obesity and diabetes in the Victorian population, particularly among young people. By improving eating and physical activity habits, the development of chronic diseases like diabetes and cardiovascular disease could be prevented, with significant personal, social and economic benefits," Cr Zimora said.

Ms Dans said that the whole community were invited to join in the fitness fun at Latrobe Leisure Moe Newborough.

"Being healthy means not only being physically well, but also being mentally and emotionally well. Joining a gym, going for a swim, taking up a team sport enables people to build their social connections too.

"We would encourage as many people as possible to come to Moe Newborough and explore the many ways to keep your mind, body and spirit healthy," Ms Dans concluded.
