Latrobe City Council mayor, Councillor Ed Vermeulen explained that the Minister met with the Latrobe Valley Transition Committee (LVTC) and Mayoral Reference Group this morning to discuss the recently released LVTC Report to Government.

"Council has played a very active role in the development of the LVTC Report to Governments. Latrobe City Council chief executive officer, Paul Buckley is a member of the LVTC, while I am a part of the Mayoral Reference Group, along with the Mayors of Wellington Shire and Baw Baw Shire. Senior officers have also participated in a Senior Officers Group," Cr Vermeulen said.

"The meeting today was an opportunity for our CEO to lead discussion about the LVAF Report to Governments and to highlight the priorities most in need of immediate funding by the Australian Government including support for job creation initiatives, development of the Lurgi site, Gippsland Logistics Precinct, and funding for a Social Impact Analysis. We are pleased to see these priorities, projects and initiatives included in the report.

"Council urges the State and Australian governments to prioritise projects, and commit to immediate funding, without delay for the benefit of our community," Cr Vermeulen concluded.

Following the meetings, Minister Crean visited Lion National Foods to see a recent upgrade, as well as to Monash University’s Gippsland campus for an update on the proposed Centre for Sustainable Industries.
