Tyers Prepares For 28Th Art FestivalThe number of entries for the Tyers Art Festival on 9th - 11th November has increased again, with some 570 works of art to feature this year. By Peter Harrison - 2nd November 2007 - Back to News The festival program also includes the DSE and CFA Gippsland Summer 06/07 Fire Photographic Exhibition and book launch
Peter Harrison, Principal of Tyers Primary School and spokesperson for the Tyers Art Festival Committee, said: ‘This is our 28th Year and the Festival keeps growing in size and stature. We have another record field of entries from artists around Victoria, with a number of artists entering the festival for the first time.’
Mr Harrison continued, ‘This year’s gala opening will also include the opening of the DSE & CFA Gippsland Summer 06/07 Fire Photographic Exhibition and Display and on Sunday the Women in Community group will be launching the book ’69 Days of Fire – a Gippsland Perspective."
Local businesses have continued to support the festival, recognising that it is one of the top events on the Gippsland Arts Calendar and a great way to promote Tyers Primary School.
Mr Harrison said, ‘Ticket sales for the Friday Gala Opening night are selling well, so art lovers will have to move quickly to gain a ticket. Exhibited works are available for purchase, and if art lovers don’t want to miss out getting in early is a must.’
Works entered in the festival cover a range of media including Oil and Acrylic, Watercolours, Mixed Media, Pastel, Photography, Designer Craft and a number of Young Artist Categories
‘Tyers Primary School is a focal point for this community, so we are really pleased with the great response from the Latrobe Valley community. It is terrific to get such strong support from businesses, parents and of course the artists.’ said Mr Harrison.
Mr Harrison concluded: ‘This Festival demonstrates that the Tyers community continues to work together to achieve great things for our school and our town.’
Tickets for the Gala Opening Night are running out fast, but tickets can still be purchased by contacting Tyers Primary School direct on 03 5191 8260.
