Morwell Library and Service Centre hours extendedOpening hours at the collocated Morwell Library and Service Centre in Elgin Street will be extended from 18 October 2005 until 19 April 2005, as part of pilot program being undertaken by Latrobe City Council. By Latrobe Shire Council - 20th October 2004 - Back to News During the extended hours, citizens will have access to all library facilities, and be able to access services such as making payments or lodging Council enquiries.
Latrobe City’s Chief Executive Officer, Paul Buckley, said the pilot program would analyse the effectiveness of combining Latrobe City’s library and customer service operations.
"Since collocating the Morwell library and customer service operations under the one roof, we have noted the occasional frustration residents have finding the Service Centre open while the Library is closed, and vice-versa," Mr Buckley said.
"From Monday 18 October the Morwell library and customer service operations will be open 9am-5.30pm Monday to Friday and 9am-12noon on Saturdays.
"This arrangement provides considerable additional hours for library users; as to date, the library has been closed Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings.
"The pilot program also provides citizens with an opportunity to access Council’s customer services on Saturday mornings which many people who work Monday to Friday, will appreciate," Mr Buckley said.
Mr Buckley said the introduction of the pilot program at Morwell followed recent initiatives at the Traralgon Library where additional opening hours were introduced.
"Latrobe City Council is committed to providing the best possible access to Council Services and facilities, and these initiatives provide an excellent opportunity for maximising use of facilities, resources and community interaction," Mr Buckley said.
"There is also more good news for Traralgon library patrons as the 2004-2005 year progresses.
"Following relocation of most staff from the Traralgon office to the new corporate headquarters this coming Autumn, the Traralgon library will move to its larger premises in Kay Street where it will be collocated with the Service Centre to deliver an enhanced range of services," Mr Buckley said.
Dependant on the success of the Morwell Pilot, it is likely that similar operating hours will be introduced in Traralgon," Mr Buckley added.
