Planning changes welcomedWellington Shire Council has welcomed government approval of a planning amendment for Yarram and surrounding areas. The changes have been incorporated into the Wellington Planning Scheme. By news@gippsland - 13th June 2006 - Back to News "This is great news for the Shire, and was in response to numerous requests from the people of Yarram and district for more residential areas," said Cr Malcolm Hole, Mayor of Wellington Shire Council.
The amendment increases the amount of land available for residential, low density and rural living within the Yarram district, and includes new areas rezoned for residential purposes.
"This approval effectively frees up land in Yarram, the Buckley’s Island Road area and Woodside for residential or rural residential development," said Cr Hole.
"A lot of people have been waiting for this news.
"It will allow several developments to go ahead."
The Mayor said it had taken some time to prepare the proposals and have them approved by the Minister for Planning.
"It was in everyone’s interest that we take the time to get these things right.
"‘We needed to make sure that what we were proposing was what the community and local developers wanted, and was in line with best planning practice," said Cr Hole.
The Minister approved all areas covered under the C24 Planning Amendment except an area in Devon North. The Devon North amendment is yet to be decided by the Minister.
A copy of the approved Amendment can be inspected, free of charge, during office hours, at the Department of Sustainability and Environment, Planning Information Centre, Ground Floor, 8 Nicholson Street, East Melbourne; Gippsland Office, 71 Hotham Street, Traralgon; and at the offices of the Wellington Shire Council, 70 Foster Street, Sale and 156 Grant Street, Yarram.
