Applications open for $2,500 to $20,000 grants so local organisations and community groups can join Queen's Jubilee tree planting program
Local organisations and community groups can apply to be a part of the Planting Trees for the Queen's Jubilee program.
Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester invited interested groups to submit Expressions of Interest (EOI) to his office for potential projects. "The Queen has visited Australia numerous times during her 70-year reign and planted trees as a long-lasting reminder of the special visit and occasion," Mr Chester said.
The objective of the Planting Trees for The Queen's Jubilee program is to mark the significant occasion of Her Majesty's Jubilee through community tree planting events across Australia
Commemorating the jubilee
Mr Chester said, "This program is a way for local community groups to be involved in commemorating the jubilee and celebrating Her Majesty. Eligible projects must include formal commemorative events in 2022 to mark the jubilee, plantings of regionally-appropriate tree species, and installation of commemorative signage or plaques."
Mr Chester said organisations would be required to plant regionally appropriate species with a minimum growth of two metres. "I would encourage local groups to undertake their own research on appropriate trees and speak with local nurseries, Landcare groups and local councils on what is appropriate for the area." Mr Chester said.
Apply for a grant
Mr Chester said, "Groups can apply for grants of between $2,500 and $20,000 and can cover up to 100 percent of project costs." The EOI period closes 5pm Monday March 21, 2022 and successful nominees will then be invited to submit an application to the department.
