Yarragon lighting project underway

Baw Baw Shire Council contractors began the final stage of the Yarragon streetscape project last week.

By Baw Baw Shire Council - 28th April 2006 - Back to News

Works to be completed include the removal of existing overhead cables, power poles and streetlights, pulling electrical cabling through underground conduits and the installation of new streetlights. Council CEO, Mr Glenn Patterson said the project is exciting for Yarragon.

"In the next three to four weeks, contractors should have the project complete. Council parks and gardens staff will finish final landscaping work around Yarragon at the completion of the project," said Mr Patterson.

The streetscape project is the third and final portion of the Small Towns Design Project Program (STDPP) initiated by Council, traders and Yarragon residents in 2000.

"The aim of STDPP is to enhance the character of Yarragon, which may attract new businesses and stimulate further growth in the town. The removal of overhead powerlines will really add to the look and feel of the town," said Mr Patterson. Works on the streetscape began in late 2005. The total streetscape budget is approximately $700,000.
