Get Into Art! Open Day At Latrobe Regional GalleryFun and inspiration will be on offer at Latrobe Regional Gallery on Sunday 28 October as part of the second annual statewide Get into Art! open day. By Latrobe City - 24th October 2007 - Back to News Latrobe City’s arts director, Jacqui Hemsley said that together with 36 other public galleries across Victoria, Latrobe Regional Gallery would be presenting a diverse range of special programs including tours, talks and workshops.
"Between 11am and 3.30pm, families will enjoy our art detective family trail that guides participants around the current exhibitions.
"From 11.30am to 12.30pm, the curators of the ‘Heavy Metal’ exhibition will lead a tour of the installation followed by a wire sculpting workshop.
"Visitors can join artist Ivan Durrant, from 2pm to 3pm, for an insightful talk on his abstract large-scale paintings inspired by the world of football," Ms Hemsley said.
Ms Hemsley added that for those that haven't visited the gallery before, Get into Art! is the perfect introduction.
"If you’re a regular visitor, you will want to make the most of the special programs designed to further connect visitors with the art on display," Ms Hemsley said.
Anton Vardy, the president of the Public Galleries Association of Victoria (PGAV) said that the program would give visitors a chance to have a closer look into the network of public galleries by meeting the directors and staff, hearing from artists about their inspiration or taking a behind-the-scenes tour to discover what is in the collection.
"Victoria has the oldest and richest network of public galleries in Australia. Get into Art! is a unique program that offers all Victorians the chance to experience the state’s treasures, diverse collections, quality exhibitions and world-class facilities," Mr Vardy concluded.
Latrobe Regional Gallery is located at 138 Commercial Road, Morwell, and is open Monday to Friday 10am-5pm, and on weekends 11am–4pm. The gallery is closed public holidays. Entry is free.
