Mayor urges Games fans to enter basketball ballot

Latrobe City Mayor, Councillor Bruce Lougheed, has urged local sports fans to enter the ballot for the Commonwealth Games basketball matches being held at the Traralgon Basketball Stadium.

By City of Latrobe - 18th March 2005 - Back to News

Cr Lougheed said Latrobe City had no control over the ticketing, so residents will need to go through the formal ballot process.

"Traralgon and Bendigo will be co-hosting the first two days of the Commonwealth Games basketball mens and ladies competition on March 16 and 17 2006. While the final fixtures have not yet been confirmed, it has been announced that over these two days, either the Australian mens team or womens team will be playing at Traralgon," Cr Lougheed said.

"This is a fantastic opportunity to see world-class games being played right here in our municipality. However, would-be games watchers must enter the ballot if they are to have any hope of acquiring tickets," Cr Lougheed stressed.

"We would love to see as many locals as possible at the Games in Traralgon. However it is the responsibility of residents to enter the ballot. Even after entering, there is no guarantee that everyone will get a ticket," Cr Lougheed warned.

"The ticket ballot provides everyone with an Australian residential address an equal opportunity to obtain tickets for the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games events, so people from all over Australia are able to apply for the tickets to the Traralgon events," Cr Lougheed added.

Applications to enter the ballot can be made on-line through the website www.melbourne2006.com.au.

Applications can also be submitted by mail by completing the official ticket ballot application form which was published in the Sunday Herald Sun on Sunday 13 March. The form can also be obtained by calling the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games customer service staff on 1300 002 006.

If applying by mail, applications should be posted to: Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games, PO Box 5206, South Melbourne VIC 3205.
Applications close on Friday April 22.

From May 2005 applicants will be advised in writing of the tickets they have secured and the amount for which they will be charged.

Further information on ticket balloting and the Commonwealth Games events is available from the website www.melbourne2006.com.au.
