Camping at Walhalla

"Baw Baw Shire Council welcomes camping at Walhalla, and until the camping area at the Chinese Gardens is complete in 2008, we will not be taking any measures to prevent roadside camping," said Mr Patterson.

By Baw Baw Shire Council - 24th April 2006 - Back to News

"It has been identified by Council that there are some problems with roadside camping, we are taking steps to address this through the provision of designated camping areas, but until these are provided we will not stop visitors camping in the town.

"Unfortunately it seems a minority of visitors are causing the problems experienced in Walhalla, but this is a significant enough minority to make the current situation worse. Some control and change appears necessary for the benefit of visitors, traders and the physical environment," said Mr Patterson.

Council will continue to keep members of the public and local community groups full informed of any developments concerning visitors to Walhalla.

Over the Easter weekend, Walhalla required extra servicing which includes

  • Extra bins being provided
  • More toilet cleaning
  • Extra empties of septic tanks
  • Extra people on overtime

Council reported no specific problems from previous years. Again there were more people camping in Walhalla which makes it more difficult to keep clean as campers are widespread.
