Volunteers Gain More Skills

Bass Coast Shire Council will provide additional training for thirty Aged and Disability Service volunteers

By Carol McCormack - 1st June 2001 - Back to News

Bass Coast Shire Council will provide additional training for thirty Aged and Disability Service volunteers in celebration of International Year of the Volunteer.

The volunteers work with Council’s Aged and Disability Services Unit, which currently provides services for 1,300 Bass Coast residents. The volunteers assist with community transport and planned activity groups.

"Volunteers are a valuable resource and their contribution is highly valued by Council," said Cr. Miranda Sage, Mayor of Bass Coast Shire Council. "By providing extra training for our volunteers, we hope to give just a little something back in the form of extra skills."

The volunteers will have the opportunity to undertake first aid and manual handling training in June.

Council received an International Year of the Volunteer grant of $3,000 from the Federal Government for its Aged and Disability Services Unit volunteers.

Anyone interested in becoming a volunteer with Council’s Aged and Disability Services Unit can contact Janet Grieve on (03) 5671 2211 or 5951 3311.
