Inverloch Community Plan Coming Soon

The Inverloch Community Plan is in its final stages following months of consultation and workshopping.

By Bass Coast Shire Council - 11th September 2009 - Back to News

The Inverloch Community Planning Group received copies of its draft Community Plan at a recent meeting and will spend the next two weeks finalising the plan before launching it to the general public.

Community Planning Facilitator, Tracy VanderZalm, said the Inverloch Community Plan was an integral part of the Community Planning process and provided the tool for gauging community needs and aspirations, and how they would be achieved.

"The Inverloch Community Plan is packed with information about the area; its demographics, historical information and heritage," Mrs VanderZalm said.

"It also outlines the community planning process and Council’s role, but most importantly it features a number of high and medium priorities identified by the community and what they believe needs to happen to maintain and improve their quality of life."

The Community Planning process is unique in that it is the community who dictates what is included in their Community Plan and how it is written.

After the plan is endorsed by the Inverloch Community Planning Group, the plan will then be launched and broader feedback will be invited from residents.

The Inverloch Community Planning Group’s recent meeting also featured Council’s Strategic Planning Coordinator, Martin Gill, as guest speaker.

Mr Gill talked to the group about the Inverloch Design Framework (IDF), which is currently out for public consultation.

"The Inverloch Community Planning Group realises that the IDF is an important document that informs the future of land use in Inverloch," Mrs VanderZalm said.

"The Inverloch Community Plan states that members would like direct consultation with Council when it develops such strategic documents to highlight their priorities for Inverloch."

Council received State Government funding to support six communities to develop their Community Plan.

The process has extended to the southern estates on Phillip Island and will start in Cape Paterson in November.

If you would like your community to have a Community Plan then you are invited to nominate your area by contacting Council’s Community Planning team on 1300 BCOAST (226 278).
