Have Your Say - Inverloch Proposed Dog Off-Leash Areas

Bass Coast Shire Council is inviting all residents and rate payers to have their say regarding proposed off-leash areas for dogs in Inverloch.

By Bass Coast - 26th June 2013 - Back to News

Acting Community and Economic Development Director, Antoinette Mitchell, believes it is important for Council to provide designated off-leash areas or dog playgrounds.

"Dogs need regular exercise, and an off-leash area can provide greater stimulation than a daily walk on the lead," Ms Mitchell said.

"In consultation with Council officers, Phillip Island Nature Park, Parks Victoria and the Domestic Animal Management Plan Advisory Committee, we have identified four sites as potential off-leash areas and we would like the wider community’s feedback regarding these sites."

It is Council’s intention to look at designated dog off-leash areas throughout the entire municipality in due course to ensure that residents feel safe, whilst still providing dog-owners with areas where they can exercise their dogs off leash. Inverloch was chosen as the first area to be looked at as this area has received a considerable number of complaints, regarding both dogs off-leash, and the lack of availability of off-leash areas.

All residents and ratepayers in Inverloch will receive a hard copy survey in their letter box the week commencing 24 June and will have until 10 July to respond.

Although this consultation is specific to the Inverloch community, all community members and visitors are invited to have their say about the proposed off-leash areas as well.

Surveys will be placed in various locations throughout Inverloch such as the Library, Inverloch Hub, Visitor Information Centre, and local cafes, until Wednesday 10 July. You can also respond on line at Council’s website www.basscoast.vic.gov.au, or by going directly to this survey link at www.research.net/s/Inverloch_Dog_Off_Leash_Areas_Survey_2013.
