Meat Standards Australia Workshop, Warragul

RIST is offering beef producers a great opportunity to improve the understanding of their finished product rather than just the commodity they currently turn off.

The vehicle for this knowledge is Meat Standards Australia (MSA), the revolutionary grading and labeling system that is changing beef marketing Australia wide.

Many of the industry’s best farmers are looking at the post farm consequences of their farm management and what can be more important than how the customer views your beef? MSA is the perfect example of where a farmer can see a reward for this hard work and RIST and the Department of Primary Industries have combined forces to bring beef producers this in a one day workshop.

MSA aims to guarantee the eating quality of beef. This is achieved by addressing factors that impact on palatability and put in place quality assurance at critical control points. MSA must be able to measure palatability with confidence and must maintain integrity in the scheme.

The one-day MSA course explains the on farm factors that affect eating quality in beef carcasses, explains how MSA grading is carried out, describes cuts based grading and MSA carcass breakdown, together with a demonstration of how cuts based grading works.

The course is to be held on Wednesday the 16th of March at the Department of Primary Industries, Ellinbank. It will begin at 9am and include a trip to Radfords Abbatoirs. Included in the course fee is comprehensive supporting material, catering and a BBQ lunch. The cost with 50% FarmBi$ subsidy: $170 per person or $240 per enterprise.

Contact Sophie Wadley, DPI Ballarat on 5336 6794 or 0427 105 298 or Catherine Addinsall at RIST on 5573 0943 for further information or to register.
