Here’s Help To Settle That Baby

Bringing a new baby home from hospital can be a terrifying experience, capable of unnerving the most confident person. If the baby is unsettled and the parents sleepless, the anxiety spirals.

By South Gippsland Shire Council - 21st October 2004 - Back to News

A free seminar on baby settling will be held in Leongatha on Tuesday 23rd November 1pm – 2.30pm. This preventative program will assist young couples through their early days of parenthood and is designed for babies from one to four months old. However, the seminar is available to all parents, not just first timers.

"The seminar models a day in a baby’s life so that parents can establish good routines and habits that support both them and the baby". said Elizabeth Bazel, Council’s Maternal and Child Health Coordinator. "Babies give cues when they are tired and the seminar will help parents identify these and offer ways to settle them down".

The seminar is being run by the South Gippsland Shire Maternal & Child Health Service and will be held at the Education Centre, Gippsland Southern Health Service, Sloan Avenue, Leongatha. Bookings are essential and must be made no later than 16th November by phoning 5662 9361.

Council’s Maternal & Child Health Outreach nurse is actively involved with the Young Mothers’ Group at Tarwin Lower and the team has recently developed a brochure which is provided to all new mothers in hospital following the birth of the baby, outlining the types of support available to them.

There are 1838 children (aged 0-6) enrolled in the South Gippsland Maternal & Child Health Service, with approximately 300 new births recorded each year.
