Locals Encouraged To Get On Board V/Line Campaign Nationals Member for Morwell and Parliamentary Secretary for Small Business Russell Northe is encouraging local businesses to get on board with V/Line’s latest marketing campaign. By Russell Northe - 11th October 2011 - Back to News The "Come shopping with V/Line" campaign, which will be launched in early November, will encourage people to catch the train when they go shopping, rather than driving.
As part of the campaign, V/Line has extended the opportunity for regional businesses to express their interest in participating in this campaign at no cost. In return, businesses are required to offer V/Line customers a special discount or value-add when customers present their V/Line ticket and a voucher.
Mr Northe said Traralgon, Morwell, Moe and Warragul train stations have been identified as precincts to where the pilot campaign will occur and this provides a wonderful opportunity for local businesses to participate.
For the pilot phase of the campaign, V/Line is looking for businesses that are within walking distance of certain train stations and to fit within one of the following categories:
- Retail
- Cafés and restaurants
- Tourist attractions, museums and galleries
- Accommodation
Mr Northe said a big focus on this campaign is to shop local, and encourages local businesses to assist with the campaign, to help bring extra customers to the Gippsland region, as well as encouraging Gippsland residents to shop locally.
"It is vitally important that we continue to put locals first, and shop locally where we can. By supporting local businesses we are also providing our support to the many sporting and community groups who are often financially assisted by these local businesses."
Member for Narrcan Gary Blackwood said the campaign would be beneficial for consumers wanting to shop regionally and travel to new and different locations.
"We have so many fantastic stores and services in our region, and we should be advertising all we have to offer to those from other parts of Victoria, so they can experience the fantastic Gippsland region.
"I highly encourage businesses within the Latrobe Valley to put their hand up and get their business name out there, and give visitors and locals a reason to shop in Gippsland more often."
Expressions of Interest closed on Friday 7 October, however Mr Northe advised those businesses interested in getting involved should urgently contact Monica Barrow from V/Line on (03) 9619 5924 or on monica.barrow@vline.com.au, as there may be some flexibility in putting in applications after this date.
