Last Night's Council Meeting Round-Up: 20 June 2016

Below is a snapshot of some of the decisions made by Council at their Ordinary Meeting on Monday 20 June 2016.

Decisions

Community Amenity Local Law 2

Council gave notice of its intention to adopt Local Law No.2 2016.

Major amendments were made to four of the clauses, following the review of community feedback received earlier in the year.

This includes:

  • Clause 73 – Occasional Events in Council parks, gardens and recreational reserves

    Wording amended so that reasonable use by the public is not affected

  • Clause 77 – Public Places

    Wording amended to ensure that permits are sought for one-off events in public places

  • Clause 94 – Recreational Vehicles

    Clause removed following high volume of submissions and historic low level of complaints

  • Clause 96 – Dilapidated Buildings

    Adjusted to provide clarity for landowners and strengthen penalties for commercial and industrial buildings

Arts Strategy and Action Plan 2016 – 2021

Council adopted its first ever Arts Strategy and Action Plan, providing clear focus and direction for Latrobe City’s arts programs and facilities over the next five years.

Tracks, Trails and Paths Strategy and Implementation Plan

Council adopted a new strategy and implementation plan to deliver community priorities such as implementing missing paths, drinking fountains, parking, lighting, signage and programs that support increased walking and cycling in Latrobe City.

Draft Drainage Asset Management Plan 2016

Council endorsed the Drainage Asset Management Plan to be released for community feedback in October. Community members will have seven weeks to provide input, with the engagement window open from 10 October to 28 November 2016.

Review of the Traralgon CBD Safety Committee Terms of Reference

Council adopted the new Terms of Reference put forward by the Traralgon CBD Safety Committee, strengthening the committee’s ability to focus on emerging issues in the entertainment precinct.

Morwell East Neighborhood Resilience Plan

Council noted the Morwell and Districts Community Recovery Committee’s Morwell East Neighborhood Resilience Plan 2015 – 2016. The plan follows the recovery committee’s door-knocking efforts and focuses on enhancing the health, wellbeing and resilience of the residents of Morwell East.

Municipal Garden Competition

Council resolved to implement an annual Municipal Garden Competition to build pride in the local area and enhance the health and wellbeing of residents by being active in enjoying their gardens.

Advocacy

Road Closures

Council committed to covering the cost associated with road closures for Remembrance Day this year; continue to lobby governments to cover the costs associated with both ANZAC and Remembrance Day road closures; and explore options for how best to support such events in future years.

Economic Development in Latrobe City

Following media speculation on the future of Latrobe Valley based brown coal electricity based industry Council moved to convene a meeting with the purpose of producing a positioning paper and to coordinate and accelerate economic development in Latrobe City.

Moe Activity Centre Revitalisation Project

Council moved to write to candidates for the Federal seat of McMillan seeking a commitment that, if elected to government, the completion of the Moe Activity Centre Revitalisation Project will be funded in full.
