Caulfield Cup Day In Traralgon This Weekend Latrobe Valley residents will be able to enjoy all the festivities of the Caulfield Cup this weekend without the metropolitan crowds, By Russell Northe - 11th October 2011 - Back to News as the Latrobe Valley Racing Club (LVRC) hosts a local race day on home turf for the first time, this Saturday 15 October.
Nationals Member for Morwell Russell Northe said the additional race meet allocated to the LVRC was an election commitment that would bring new opportunities for the LVRC to grow and prosper.
"This will be a great event day for the Latrobe Valley Racing Club which has the potential to attract large crowds and increase sponsorship opportunities," he said.
"Typically events held on Caulfield Cup Day around Victoria are very special and unique, with meetings ranging from a beach party to a girls’ day out.
"This Caulfield Cup Day meeting at Traralgon will build on the club’s very successful Derby Day event and is a huge boost for the region.
LVRC Club Manager Brendan Blackshaw said Caulfield Cup Day will be very casual, with a sports club theme.
"Ladies and gents can leave their high heels and suit jackets at home this Saturday, as the day is going to be very casual and relaxed. Shorts and thongs are more than acceptable and will contribute to the fun atmosphere of the day.
"This raceday offers patrons the opportunity to get to the track and enjoy some great racing and oncourse entertainment. With Moe Cup Day now cancelled it's the first spring date in the Valley, so interest in racing is alive and well. It's a great alternative if you were planning to attend the Moe Cup.
"With cash and prizes up for grabs, there’s no reason not to come along to this fun race day. But if you are looking for a reason to dress up, you can reserve the fancy outerwear for Ladies Day, in two weeks’ time."
Mr Northe encouraged members of the community to come along and support the club on Saturday.
"Latrobe Valley Racing Club has been trying for some time to get an additional race meeting on Caulfield Cup Day and it would be great to see as many people coming along as possible.
"With the closest country race meeting at Bendigo on Caulfield Cup day, this meeting is sure to be a unique event which could attract a large crowd from all across the region."
