Forum for small business to have its say

Small business operators in Latrobe City have been invited to have their say on the Victorian State Government’s ‘Small Business Statement’.

By Latrobe City Council - 29th July 2005 - Back to News

The Minister for Small Business, Andre Haermeyer will address a forum and open the discussion on the forthcoming Victorian State Government’s ‘Small Business Statement’ on Thursday 4 August at Century Inn, Corner Airfield Road and Princes Highway, Traralgon, commencing at 6pm.

The Small Business Statement will be a blueprint for how the State Government can best support small businesses to ensure that they grow and thrive.

Latrobe City’s Manager Economic Development, Allison Jones, said the State Government’s forums enable small business operators to have their say in the development of the new Small Business Statement.

"The issues paper being presented at the forums outlines the steps involved in developing the Statement and the opportunities that exist for interested parties to contribute their views. It provides an overview of Victoria’s small business sector and examines some emerging issues; identifies some issues on which the Government is seeking specific information and comment from interested parties; and explains how to make a submission," Ms Jones said.

Five themes are identified in the Issues Paper as being essential to small business growth and development in Victoria. They are - making Victoria the best place in Australia to start and grow a business; promoting a fairer business environment; encouraging high business growth, jobs and export; skilling small business for the future; and improving Government services to small business.

Latrobe City Mayor, Councillor Bruce Lougheed, urged Latrobe’s small business operators to attend the public forum.

"The forum provides an opportunity for interested parties, particularly operators of small and medium sized businesses, to get involved and provide input to help make sure the Victorian Government’s Small Business Statement hits the mark, returning benefits for our own small business sector," Cr Lougheed said.
