Council Purchases Church St Land

Bass Coast Shire Council has purchased an acre of prime land in the centre of Cowes.

By Bass Coast - 22nd December 2010 - Back to News

The $1.1 million block of land at 50-52 Church Street, Cowes is well located and near exisiting Council facilities.

Chief Executive Officer, Allan Bawden, said while there was no formal plan for the block, the purchase opened up some great opportunities.

"We won’t be doing anything with it in the short term; however it was an opportunity we just couldn’t pass up," said Mr Bawden.

"Being able to purchase an acre of land this close to town and our other facilities is a sound investment.

"There are some very exciting projects happening in Cowes, including the Cowes Children’s Hub and the re-development of the Cultural Precinct," continued Mr Bawden.

"This purchase means we now have the option to include this land when Council and the community consider plans for the future of Cowes."

Council endorsed the purchase of the land at its meeting in November before the purchase was made early December.

Payment for the land will be made over the next 24 months.
