Drainage Upgrade For Sunseeker And McraeWork has begun on an upgrade to drainage in McRae Ave and Sunseeker Crescent in Cowes. By Bass Coast Shire Council - 11th September 2009 - Back to News Bass Coast Shire Council’s Infrastructure Director, Steven Piasente, said the work was designed to eliminate the flooding problems for properties around the intersection.
"The upgrade work includes construction of underground stormwater pipes and stormwater pits," explained Mr Piasente.
"A gross pollutant tank, to capture any rubbish in the stormwater will also be installed. This should alleviate flooding in the area."
Mr Piasente said that there would also be some kerb replacement, asphalting and pavement work as part of the project and there would be some disruption for local residents.
"Residents can expect some delays and restriction on public access during working hours," advised Mr Piasente.
"ADA Construction Services Pty Ltd has been awarded the contract and they will make every effort to provide public access at all times and keep residents informed of any changes.
"Emergency Service Vehicles will have access at all times during the works."
The work at McRae Avenue and Sunseeker Crescent will be undertaken in three stages, with stage one completed by the end of September.
"This project has been funded under the Federal Government’s Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program," explained Mr Piasente.
"If funds are available, two further stages will be undertaken. This will involve further underground drainage and stormwater pits, in Sunseeker Crescent and on the Cowes Foreshore, at a cost of $139,000.
