National Volunteers Week is celebrated from 14-20 May 2012 with events being held nationwide to celebrate the important work volunteers do within their communities.

Over 100 people attended the event at Archies on the Creek, which was hosted as a thank you to all volunteers who generously donate their time to Council.

Cr Veronica Dowman said those people who volunteered with Council made it possible to deliver a wide range of services.
"I spoke to several people and there were many stories about how people volunteer for us.

"One thing they have in common is a great commitment to a cause," said Cr Dowman.

"There are volunteers who support Council’s services in areas of Visitor Information, committees of management, community strengthening and aged and disability.

"Some of our volunteers have been volunteering for ten or twenty years and on a regular basis. Others volunteered for special events or projects and had given their time intensely to all sorts of endeavours.

"The work of all these volunteers is truly valued and benefits so many other people," said Cr Dowman.

Cr Dowman also acknowledged that volunteers contribute their time and skills to many other committees and groups in Bass Coast.

Guests at the event enjoyed scones, pastries, sandwiches and refreshments. It was evident our volunteers also found enjoyment in catching up with other friends in the room.
