Gippsland Water is lifting Stage 2 water restrictions at Boolarra, effective immediately.

Gippsland Water is lifting Stage 2 water restrictions at Boolarra, effective immediately.

The heavy rainfall over the past few days has seen water levels in the catchments that supply the Boolarra township increase. Both Wakeley’s and O’Grady’s Creeks have now exceeded trigger points for restrictions, thus enabling these restrictions to be lifted.

Mr John Mitchell, Chief Executive Officer, Gippsland Water said, “As a result of the water restrictions and the co-operation of the Boolarra residents our water levels have now reached a more sustainable level. The rainfall over the last few days has been most welcome and couldn’t have come at a better time.

Whilst the Boolarra water storage is now at acceptable levels, Gippsland Water is still asking residents to be sensible with their water consumption.

Mr Mitchell said, “While we have made it through the dry summer period, residents should still be watchful with the amount of water they consume. Smaller towns such as Boolarra rely on catchments which can, during times of low rainfall, quickly diminish.”

Mr Mitchell said, “Gippsland Water would like to thank the residents of Boolarra for their co-operation in restricting their water consumption. We do regret any inconvenience that the restrictions may have imposed on the community. Fortunately, unlike a number of regions in Victoria, we are now free of any form of water restriction.”

Residents who would like water conservation advice or further information are asked to contact Gippsland Water’s 24 hour emergency response line toll free on 1800 057 057.
