By Bass Coast Shire Council - 5th May 2009 - Back to News

The ceremony was attended by Bass Coast Councillors Gareth Barlow and Veronica Dowman, Hon Ken Smith MLA, Russell Broadbent MHR, 2009 Bass Coast Citizen of the Year Rev Bruce Charles, Sports Person John Taafe and Arts and Cultural Ambassador Dennis Leversha, along with family and friends of the new citizens.

Cr Barlow welcomed James Bycroft, Michael Cawley, Christine Gicquel, Anna Gray, Kyrylo Kosaruk, Steven Miller and Linda Rathbun and acknowledged that relinquishing citizenship of their home country was a big and often emotional step.

"I congratulate you on choosing Australia as your new home," Cr Barlow said.

"As most of you have lived here many years, I am sure you are aware of what a wonderful place this is and we are very glad to have you as part of our community."

The new citizens hailed from the United Kingdom, New Zealand, France, Sweden, Ukraine and the United States and currently reside in Grantville, Cowes, Cape Paterson, Inverloch and Jam Jerrup.
