Bass Coast Shire Council deferred a decision to close the Inverloch Transfer Station at Wednesday night’s meeting, and will hold two community information sessions before revisiting the proposal at the August meeting.

Council is considering the closure of the Station due to a number of issues, including the significant investment in upgrading the site to the required standard, encroachment of residential development on the site and its environmental impacts on the nearby Screw Creek.

"The decision to defer gives us the opportunity to speak to our community about the recently adopted Waste Management Strategy, background information, factual data and the reasons behind the officers recommendations for closure," Bass Coast Mayor, Cr Jordan Crugnale said.

"A decision has not been made, and we are very aware that this has gone under the radar of public knowledge.

The community information sessions will be held on 8 July and 15 July from 4.00pm to 6.00pm at the Inverloch Hub.

If Council accepts the recommendation to close the facility as of 1 September 2017, a detailed plan addressing alternative waste disposal options and transition arrangements will be implemented.
